The Jesuit Refugee Service provides educational opportunities for refugees and Malawian children from preschool to secondary school. Children need a safe learning environment to flourish and JRS provides classrooms and well-trained teachers. The future goal is to decrease class sizes, hire new teachers, increase teaching and learning resources, and build new classrooms. Improved facilities will be of great help but additional monitoring of teachers and providing learning opportunities for the teachers increases learning in the classroom as well. JRS also recognizes the importance of parental involvement in education and is working to create workshops and parental committees to encourage participation.
